Montellano
Flooding
What Happened
Between April 10 and 12, 2026, severe flooding struck Montellano, Puerto Plata after intense rainfall caused the Río Camú to overflow. Homes, streets, and farmland were submerged, and the community was declared a disaster zone, with over 4,000 families affected. A major bridge collapse further isolated the area.

Our Response
Within 48 hours of the flooding, The Samaritan Foundation’s Community Development and Outreach team mobilized, coordinating directly with community leaders to identify and reach the most vulnerable families. On April 14 and 17, we delivered 780 hot meals and 324 bottles of drinking water, along with distributing clothing to those who had lost essential belongings. Our team also carried out direct deliveries into hard-to-reach communities that had not yet received outside aid.

Next Steps
Although immediate needs are stabilizing, the reality on the ground is that recovery is only beginning. Families are still clearing mud from their homes and working to replace what was lost, and for many, that loss included everything from clothing to furniture to school materials.

Simply put, as a new school year approaches, hundreds of children are at risk of returning with nothing. That is why we are coming alongside these families to equip children with uniforms, shoes, backpacks, and school supplies, helping them return to school with dignity, confidence, and hope.

Be Part of the Recovery
We need your help. We invite you to prayerfully consider supporting these families, whether by sponsoring one child or many. A gift of $40 provides everything a child needs to return to school this August. Our goal is to raise $8,000 to support 200 children as they prepare for the new school year.
